Round 5 saw us take on Clarence in our second two dayer of the year. We won the toss and elected to bowl on a rain effected wicket. Clarence were cruising at 2 for 101 before losing 8 for 55 to be all out for 156. Nick McDonald bowled well for 3 for 18 off ten. Matty Triffitt was also very effective with 2 for 7 off 7 overs.

In our run chase we lost Braden Howlett early to be 1 for six Billy Grice and Thomas Coates played well to stumps moving the score to 1 for 27. We were in a great position to win our first game of the year but unfortunately we lost early wickets the next week to be all out for 105. Mathew Triffitt was easily our best batter as his 22 was the only score in double figures.

Tim Spotswood clearly hadn’t forgotten Jeff Thompson’s words from the night before as he took 5 wickets in his 3 overs before tea. We bowled Clarence out for 49 after tea Tim Spotswood finished with 6 for 13 and Jayden Wylie took 3 for 14.

Due to our great bowling and fielding performances we only required a relatively small total of 101 to win. Jordan Hutchinson in his last game with us before he leaves for Western Australia was promoted up the order and made a quick 10. However we then collapsed to 5 for 37. Tim Spotswood and Jayden Wylie batted well together until Tim was caught for 22. Jye Collis, Ben Higgins and Nick McDonald all made good contributions and Supported Jayden Wylie very well. We eventually won with one wicket in hand and Jayden Wylie 37 not out it was a great result for us and should see us kick on in the remainder of the season.
