Round 2 vs North Hobart

On day two of the opening weekend of the season, the Pies were out at Fergusson Park against reigning champs North Hobart.

After a ripping feed at the coach’s place the night before (what a feed it was) the boys were excited about the chance to avenge the loss from the previous day & on a good looking track Dane & his little mate on his lip decided to have a bat.

Rob “my man” Dilger reversed his first ball duck from the previous day to a first ball bomb but from there the Pies collapsed for the second time to again be 5-50 after 11 overs.

The difference today was Brett “Black Fang” Geeves being one of the top four was still in to steady the ship, Brett received some good support from Richie “Goldie locks” Dilger & Ryan “Wristie” Delaney edging the Pies up to a total of 109 from our 20 overs with Brett scoring a nice 40 off 27 balls.

A fairly paltry total to defend against the reining champs but the boys went about it in gallant fashion, being very good in the field with two direct hit run outs & the bowlers exceeding no extras.

The 109 was as suspected to be about 20-30 runs short with the Dees Captain John Rogers hitting the winning runs in the 19th over.

Not a great start to the season for the Pies but we remain very positive about our ability to turn things around with a very talented list with some good depth.

A lot of expectation has been put on the current group & I urge you to keep a close eye for when we hit our straps.

Stay tuned for next week as we head back to Pontville to continue a healthy rivalry with the South Hobart/Sandy Bay Sharks.
