1st Grade R1 v University

Uni 4/151 def. Glen 146

Robbie Dilger 38
Nathan Philip 37
Dane Anderson 28

Nathan Matthews 2/ 14 (8)

Round 1 saw the Pies head out to Uni Oval to take on University in a one day game. The wicket looked surprisingly good for a round one Hobart wicket and we won the toss and decided to have a hit. Liam "Bally" Reynolds fell early in his first hit out for the Pies which brought together Robbie Dilger and myself to try and steady the ship. But when we both fell in the space of 2 balls with the score on 76, Uni had their noses back in front. The middle and lower order failed to fire any shots except for that of Nathan "Son of a Dud" Philip who played some nice shots on his way to 37. Eventually we were rolled for 146 after only 40.1 overs with Nathan "The Poor" Butterworth the last man to fall when he managed to some how cut a bouncer from a metre over his head down onto the stumps.

With a low total to defend we needed early wickets from opening bowlers and they gave us more than a sniff by having them 4 for 26 early on. Nathan Matthews was especially impressive bowling 8 overs straight for a return of 2/14. He was well supported by Kelby "Very Weird Person" Pickering, who after arriving late due to giving birth to 3 baby goats overnight (Congratulations Picks) bowled with great control early doors.

Enter Graham Cunningham. Our bowlers failed to hit their spots consistantly enough to Richie and he punished us with a 50 ball 89 which took the game away from us within an hour. Heading into round 2 against Sandy Bay coach Brodie Philip will need his top order to stand up and post a big score, to set the game up for us to get our first win for the season. Brodie can also be seen this week on Fox8 starring as Stan Smith's lovable Alien pet Roger, on American Dad. Good Luck Next Week!
