2nd Grade R1 v University

Glen 188 def Uni 106

M. Hamilton 61
P. Prakash 25

Richie Dilger 2/15
M. Hamilton 2/21
K. Hingston 2/28

Match two for the seconds was another home game this time against University. With 1st Grade having the week off and a win in our first game we began the match with an unchanged side.

Again winning the toss we decided to bat first and try to set our opponents a challenging total. The wicket looked a little better than last week and a score of 200 minimum was our target.
After losing an early wicket which left us at 1/8 we were on the back foot. Simon "Stebbo" Stebbings and Pravash "the Racoon" Prakash seemed to be going along nicely until Stebbo nicked out in the 6th over leaving us at 2/33.

**Note: Can someone please come up with a better nickname than Stebbo.

Next man in Matthew "I’ve never made 50" Hamilton joined The Racoon and resurrected the innings, taking the score onto 93 before Prav holed out for a good 25.

Then similar to last week we lost a couple of quick wickets. David "The Hoff" Hunt and then Ritchie "Look at my Guns" Dilger unfortunately were dismissed and with Hammo looking good he was joined by Simon "Parmagiana" Palmer. We again needed a partnership to make it to 200 or more.

Then suddenly it happened. Matthew "I’ve now made 50" Hamilton raised his bat on reaching his maiden half century for the club. Just for posterity Hammo brought up his 50 off 67 balls including 5 boundaries and a six in 95 minutes.

With Hammo looking a million dollars the crowd were on edge. However comments such as "Geez I hope he doesn’t get past 87" (D.West) and "or 116" (Nathan "Rowdy" Matthews) led to his demise with Hammo eventually out for 61 after combining with Simmo to put on 52 invaluable runs.

We were now in a reasonable position at 6/164 still with 12 overs to go. Unlike last week our tail did not wag and we lost 4/24 to be dismissed for 188 still with 4 overs to face.

With only a mediocre total to defend we would need to hold our chances and ensure we bowled in good areas.

Kial "the Goose" Hingston and Luke "Euko" Curran again got us off to a flyer. Combined with some good fielding they snared 3/39 after their 13 overs to have us in a good position.
The "Dibbly Dob" twins Matthew "I’ve hit a career best" Hamilton and David "the hair straightener" Hunt again provided good support to the openers. Their spells contributed another 3 wickets for 46 runs and after an almost freakish Run Out by Kial "the Goose" Hingston it was time for The Crayfish (Richie Dilger) to clean up the tail. Richie "I got the umpires phone number" Dilger claimed 2/15 (I reckon one of those was his twin brother) to effectively finish the Uni boys off.
