Round 5 - 1 Day v Uni @ Uni
With terrible weather over the weekend the scheduled 2 day game was reduced in the end to a contest of 33 overs each. The game was able to get underway late Sunday due to some amazing work by Josh Bean on the Gas Axe burning the moisture off the wicket and leaving an amazing looking black spot on the wicket in a precarious position short of a length in front of middle stump. Despite this and credit to the captains, umpires and players the game got underway and the famous black spot only claimed one major victim with an innocuous Rowdy Matthews delivery rearing at Cunners head catching high on the stickers causing a skied catch. Luke Butterworth bowled an amazing first spell ably supported by the Chimes. Good bowling by all bowlers was the order of the day and excellant fielding kept Uni in check. With 2 wickets to Sooky Lerossignol and Delaney tearing them apart with 3/13 off 5 a very gettable total of 127 was on the board. The pies looked for a steady start but lost Penny to his nemisis Hilfy to a ball that seemed to skid through. From there Eddie (72no) & Javid the Pom (44no) put together an impeccable 115 run unbeaten stand against a fierce attack of Hilfy, Faulkner, Krejza, Bean & co. to bring the pies home to a commanding win.
Picks in his Afghani kit and the boys wait to bat.
